Tennis, Badminton & Fun Camp at King Edwards Lower School & Ecclesfield Secondary School

Posted on: June 19th, 2009 by Nathan Reid

Interserve Active8 will be holding their first tennis, badminton & fun camps during the summer holidays. The course will run at King Edwards on a Tuesday & at Ecclesfield on a Wednesday for a 6-week period (To see dates please view flyer below). The days run from 10.00am – 3.00pm. The course is for children between the ages of 6 and 14. Included throughout the camp will be various fun games and exercises plus an opportunity to practice and learn skills in tennis & badminton.

There is a limited number of places available so please book in advance, this also helps with getting the correct number of coaches so that your child gets maximum benefit from the camp. On selected sessions there will be a qualified tennis coach leading the session.

If you are not able to book in advance then you can drop by on the day but places will only be given subject to availability, so book now to avoid disappointment.

The course leader is Steve Little, an experienced member of our staff who is CRB checked as will any additional coaches during the camp

Active8 In The Community

Posted on: June 16th, 2009 by Nathan Reid

Throughout the previous school term active8 have continued our new venture working in the community and with local schools. So far there has been a very positive response and we hope this will continue for a long time to come.

Active8 went into local primary schools to work within their classroom environment and also ran clubs that linked into the extended schools & healthy lifestyles. The scheme proved beneficial to all parties and was a huge success. We again hope that we will be able to improve these links over the coming terms.

We have also helped children to improve their gross motor skills through enjoyable learning experiences, helping develop reading levels as well as assisting in the sports lessons.

Some of the children produced cards and pictures at the end of the session to show how much they appreciated and enjoyed the time active8 spent with them. Please see below.

Active8 has now started running sessions in conjunction with S.N.I.P.S (Special Needs Inclusion Playcare Services) providing activities for their children. So far there has again been a positive response and we are looking forward to progressing these sessions further in the future, as this is a great learning curve for everyone involved and is beneficial to the workers, participants and the local communities.

If you think the work Active8 are doing may benefit you, or if you feel you would like to work with Active8 please email us at Info.active8sheffield@interserve.com

Please check the website for further details and updates of our work within the community.

Mosborough Fun Camp

Posted on: June 8th, 2009 by Nathan Reid

Interserve Active8’s holiday fun camp ran for 3 days during the half term break. Throughout the camp various activities were done including play, games and creative activities. There was also an element of free choice in the activities and with the sun beaming down we ventured outside onto the fields for more fun play.

Some of the creative work was really imaginative and the children & staff really enjoyed these activities and it was great to blow off steam outside, thanks for the daisy chains everyone!!!

We have numerous games that we play as part of the fun with the games designed to get the group active and having fun. Various forms of rounders, cricket and other sports made the day competitive, and again the highlight for everyone involved was FLIES & LIZARDS!!! (One day I will win). We had some new faces that attended this camp who got on extremely well with the ‘old clan’ to make the camp an enjoyable experience for all.

The creative activities included drawing, colouring, cutting, painting and more. Some of the animals made were fantastic as were the masks and pictures. No one could quite work out the magic trick even though there were some pretty close attempts!!!

Myself on behalf of Active8 would like to thank all the participants for making the camp enjoyable and their parents/guardians for bringing them to the camp. Also a thank you to Nicola & Kwesi for helping out as well as our new starter Beth.

We look forward to seeing you all throughout the summer. As soon as we have the dates confirmed we will let you all know.
