Charity Fun Day 09

Posted on: August 30th, 2009 by admin

Interserve Active8 held their second Cancer charity fun day during August to raise money for Weston Park Hospital & The Barnsley Hospice in memory of colleagues, friends & family we have lost.

The weather was superb for the second year running which meant all our activities could stay outside whilst we got to top up our tans.

The table sale that was situated around the outskirts of the school created much interest with a wide and varied selection of items available to capture something for many people. We also had some fairground stalls/rides, which led through to more tables, food stalls, charity football match, trampolining, bouncy castle, sumo suits and Big Als Funhouse.

The football match was organised by Nathan Reid and Activity Sheffield (David Spacey). Over the years the two groups have developed a close link and Activity Sheffield were out to avenge their defeat from the previous year, unfortunately for them they ended up on the wrong end of a 5-2 scoreline. Interserve Active8 taking the glory for the second year running.

However their was some revenge for Activity Sheffield by narrowly beating Interserve Active8 in the sumo wrestling competition!!!

We also had the speed gun testing the shot power which seemed to entertain children and adults alike for hours, our very own Steve Little top scored with an impressive score of 104 kph. However successive defeats in the sumo ring dented this glory.

Jerk chicken and other Caribbean favourites delighted the taste buds of the attendees thanks to The Dam House Bar & Restaurant, with the usual burgers and hot dogs available as well as Capille’s very own Paella.

The DJ blasted out tunes from all eras but we were a little shocked when he started boogying to Barbie girl!!!

A big thank you goes out to all that attended and showed their support to a cause so many of us feel so strongly about. We managed to raise over £900 yet again so lets hope next year we can break the £1000 barrier.
