Archive for September, 2009

Interserve Active8 have continued working with SNIPS to provide activities for children that have special needs and sibling support. Every Monday for a 6 week period throughout the summer we ran a session 10.00 am – 3.00 pm.

We accessed a community fun day and also did a range of sports, activities, creative fun, board games, jigsaws, quizzes and magic! When the weather was nice we ventured outside and played games out there, the rest of the time using the sportshall & gymnasiums.

The children and staff attending made the days as enjoyable as possible and everyone learnt a lot and gained valuable experience whilst building a rapport with each other.

The sessions are now being run fortnightly on a Saturday and again in the October half term.

Active8 hope to continue this partnership so we can provide further opportunities to children and their families alike.

Mosborough Summer Fun Camp

Posted on: September 23rd, 2009 by Nathan Reid

Interserve Active8’s Mosborough School Fun Camp have completed their first summer programme. The camps are based around the principles of keeping the children entertained by physical and creative activities with the emphasis on having fun.

Varied activities are run throughout the day with the children having the opportunity to try games and crafts and take home whatever they make. The staff and children built up an excellent rapport over the Thursdays & Fridays throughout the 6-week period, many of the children attending regularly throughout.

Luckily for much of the summer the weather was good so we got to use the outdoor facilities to play games, explore, relax and on occasions have lunch.

There were a variety of activities that took place; during ‘relax’ time there were board games, cards, books and jigsaws. The crafts consisted of cutting, colouring and sticking, making masks, bags, pictures, cards, bookmarks, animals and stencil drawings. The games include various children’s favourites such as tag, flies & lizards, dodgeball, wink murder, foxes & rabbits, cups & saucers, assault course, skills circuit and many more.

The support from parents, the school, Interserve Active8 staff and of course the kids has been superb and only by all this have these camps been possible, so a big THANK YOU goes out to everyone. Each child will receive a certificate and gift for attending and we hope to see you all again in the next holidays.

King Edwards Tennis, Badminton & Fun Camp

Posted on: September 23rd, 2009 by Nathan Reid

Interserve Active8 ran their first tennis, badminton & fun camps during the summer period. Richard Furness a qualified tennis coach came into run the sessions and offer his expertise to the groups. Luckily all but one of the days the weather held up so we could use the outdoor facilities for tennis.

Throughout the day we did various relay and tag games to warm up, followed by the favourite dodgeball challenge before getting out the tennis rackets and practicing skills, shots then playing some games. There was a huge improvement over the weeks as the groups confidence rose and some of the group will now be attending some tennis coaching sessions. After lunch more warm up games were done followed by some badminton practice & a mini tournament. The tournaments allowed everyone to play each other no matter of age or ability in a short, fun format.

Again thank you to everyone who participated and showed support throughout the summer, for making these sessions enjoyable and we hope to see you all again on future camps.
