Mosborough Fun Camp

Posted on: August 28th, 2013 by Nathan Reid

July had arrived and it was that time of year again… School was out for summer!  Active8 Sheffield were there to help out all parents with the weeks ahead and our Mosborough Holiday Fun Camps were underway.  The camps ran through 4 weeks of the summer and we were all happy to see the smiling faces of the children, some familiar and a few newbies along the way.

With numbers high from day one, the days were packed with fun-filled team games and a big focus was placed on bonding and friendship of the group.  The scorching weather on many days allowed for lots of outdoor fun and the children could open their lungs and fill them with fresh air.  Our active and friendly staff organised various activities to keep the kids entertained throughout – these varied from relay races to artwork competitions and from our ever-loved dodgeball to a debut for Active8’s own Mosborough’s Got Talent/M-Factor singing and dancing competition.  The latter was a welcomed change and provided both staff and children with the opportunity to see their peers show off their beautiful voices and silky smooth dance moves.  With solo efforts to group performances, everyone was impressed and picking a winner became a difficult feat.

The team ethic aspect of the weeks meant that the children experienced a sense of camaraderie and value within their group.  Children remained in the same groups all day and were each given a role within their teams.  Examples of roles ranged from group leader to strategy manager and every single child took part with bags of enthusiasm.

The four weeks ran as smooth as ever and the children all seemed to have a great time with us.  We want to give a personal thank you to all that attended, be it for one day or all the way through.  It is great to have so many different faces coming through our doors and we look forward to seeing you all again during the next school holidays in October.

See you soon

Mosborough Fun Camp

Posted on: June 7th, 2013 by Nathan Reid

The return of the school holidays saw the return of the ever popular Mosborough Fun Camps.

Many activities took place in the hall, allowing for plenty of activity and lots of energy to be displayed by the children. This was most evident during the competition which was staged across the camps. It involved several different activities including football, dodgeball, relay races, football rounders and musical mats. The intense competition came to a head on Thursday, the final day of the camps. After two days of competition both the reds and the blues had one victory each, meaning the winner on Thursday would take all the glory. The reds raced into a lead by winning the football rounders by a huge 10 points. The blues narrowed the gap a little by edging the musical mats to reduce the arrears to 7 points. With just the football left in the morning session the blues knew a win in this event was important and they duly delivered, winning by 2 points to trail by 5 heading into lunch. The afternoon started with an even showing in the relay races meaning a 5 point lead for the reds heading into the final event, dodgeball. With the blues having to take a big win to level up the contest they started quickly winning the first 4 games to trail by just 1 point heading into the final game and also the final event of the camps. Unsurprisingly, after the previous four game showing, the blues snatched the win meaning that after three days of games and activities it was a draw.

A huge thank you to all who came to the camps and made them such a massive success. We hope to see everyone again next time during the summer holidays for more fun and activities.

Mosborough Fun Camp

Fun at Camp

With the Easter holidays bringing a two week break the Mosborough Fun Camps were run over six days, much to the pleasure of the children.

The activities on offer included board games such as Battleships, Guess Who and Buckaroo. Children also had to opportunity to explore their arts and crafts talents with colouring sheets, drawing equipment and Lego to develop their inner architect.

Activities also took place in the hall, allowing for more activity and energy to be displayed by the children. The ever popular Dodgeball was, as always, in high demand and children also enjoyed playing a spot of quick cricket.

These Easter camps also saw the re-introduction of the obstacle course races. Obstacles included climbing over benches, passing through a hoop and hopping all while carrying an egg and spoon. The obstacle course races were all very tightly contested indeed. With each team winning one of the opening four races there was only one option…a decider. This had to be the most difficult of all the courses, so the blindfolds were introduced. The children had to guide each other around several obstacles, to retrieve a bean bag, and then get back to the beginning. This race was neck-and-neck between the yellows and the greens, until the yellows pulled away on the last leg to snatch the victory.

After the obstacle course races and due to some warmer weather gracing the camps this time around, the activities also spread to the outdoors. In the fresh air the children played sports, such as football and basketball. Others enjoyed skipping and climbing in the play area, whilst others explored the nature trail to try and discover the plants and animals that make this area their home.

A huge thanks to all who came to the camps and made them such a massive success. We hope to see everyone again next time during the May half-term for more fun and activities.

Mosborough Fun Camp

The half-term fun camp at Mosborough proved to be its usual, successful occasion. With a range of indoor and outdoor activities being undertaken by the children (and adults) much fun was had by all.

Children enjoyed playing with colouring sheets, Twister, Battleships, Guess Who and Lego but to name a few of the indoor activities. After a short break to refuel the activities commenced outdoor this time with children playing football, basketball and skipping. There was also a nature trail explored by the children who looked at the plants and animals that make this area their home.

To round off the day and due to popular demand the inaugural Mosborough Fun Camp Benchball tournament was held. It was an exciting and tense affair from the off, with many close games throughout. The final was no exception and was keenly contested between ‘The Reds’ and ‘The Blues’! It started with The Reds taking and early lead but The Blues brought it back to take the lead themselves with just a minute remaining. Looking like victory was beyond them The Reds pulled out two scores in the last 30 seconds to seal the victory.

So after a fun we would all like to say a massive thank you to all involved, including the children, who made the camp a huge success. We hope to see you at our next fun camp which will be held in April.
