Active8-Sheffield Summer Football Tournament – Build up

Active8’s Summer 11-a-side Football Tournament is set to kick off on Tuesday 14th June 2016. The tournament will be hosted at both Tapton and King Edwards Community Sports Centres throughout the summer months. We are excited to welcome a few familiar faces as well as brand new teams this year. The tournament will run for 8 consecutive weeks with the semi-finals and final taking place week commencing Monday 1st August 2016.

The opening day Tuesday 14th June provides two exciting openers to the tournament. Last year’s tournament winners Jack in a Box FC will be facing a familiar figure of Norton Oaks at Tapton Community Sports Centre whilst new comers Brunsmeer Athletic will be facing a youthful strong returning Mosborough FC. Wednesday 15th June sees two time winners and tournament hosts Active8-Sheffield play against another returning side of Sheffield Bankers FC. Not forgetting this year’s favourites and new comers Frechville who will play Mosborough FC on Wednesday 22nd June in week 2.

We are excited to welcome all teams for our annual tournament and hoping to make it the most competitive and enjoyable tournament yet with a brand new playing kit up for grabs for the overall winners. We hope this tournament will provide all teams with the competitive preparation for your season ahead. We cannot wait to get started!!

Can someone take the crown from Jack in a Box FC or will they reign once again.

What’s going on?

Active8-Sheffield continues to host successful events across all four of our venues. Over the past few months there have been a wide variety of events from Pantomimes, First Aid Competitions, Sporting Events and Music Concerts.

Tapton Youth Brass Band is a brass band formed in 1994 in Sheffield, England as the Tapton School band. Its musical director is Pat Phillips. It now attracts interest from outside the School and is known as Tapton Youth Brass Band. We were delighted to a partnership linking the schools work and our working by offering the Tapton Main Hall for the concert.

The atmosphere was fantastic throughout with friends and family members of the band joining in with the fun. The concert managed to raise money to supply the band with new instruments for future concerts.

The director Pat Phillips had a great day and added:

“The reunion and evening concert went really well and we all enjoyed ourselves .  The caretaker, Michael, was fantastic going out of his way to help and did not complain when the concert ran over time. The venue was fantastic and perfect for our concert. The assitance throughout the day was fantastic. Thank you for the support before, during and after the day”

We can host a variety of events sporting and non-sporting, outdoor or indoor facilities. Small, medium or large events we can cater to your needs.

If you are interested in hosting a summer event then please don’t hesitate to contact us on 0114 2402308 (option 2) or email us on

Active8 Sheffield Corporate 6-a-side Football Tournament Kicks Off

Posted on: December 20th, 2011 by Nathan Reid

On Monday 12th December 2011 Active8 Sheffield saw off the wet and windy conditions to host their first ever Corporate 6-a-side football tournament. The event took place at King Edwards Sports Centre and was a resounding success due to all teams that took part competing fantastically well!

Darren Roberts captained his Jack-in-a-box side to victory without losing a game and only conceding one goal throughout the whole tournament. They saw off Ross Brown’s Sheffield Hallam University outfit with a 1-0 win in the final under the floodlights courtesy of a goal from tournament leading goalscorer Jamie Roper.

Other teams that took part included James Taylor’s Sheffield University Officer Training Corps, John Champion’s Electrical Services, Gregg Lant’s Morrisons Side and Andrew Leonard’s Premier Sport guys.

Special Thanks go out to everyone who entered a team and took part in our event. A final Thank You also goes to Joe Mullen who gave up his own time to help us officiate the event, we couldn’t have done it without you all!

Active8 would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. We look forward to many more events to come!

Active8 In The Community

Posted on: June 16th, 2009 by Nathan Reid

Throughout the previous school term active8 have continued our new venture working in the community and with local schools. So far there has been a very positive response and we hope this will continue for a long time to come.

Active8 went into local primary schools to work within their classroom environment and also ran clubs that linked into the extended schools & healthy lifestyles. The scheme proved beneficial to all parties and was a huge success. We again hope that we will be able to improve these links over the coming terms.

We have also helped children to improve their gross motor skills through enjoyable learning experiences, helping develop reading levels as well as assisting in the sports lessons.

Some of the children produced cards and pictures at the end of the session to show how much they appreciated and enjoyed the time active8 spent with them. Please see below.

Active8 has now started running sessions in conjunction with S.N.I.P.S (Special Needs Inclusion Playcare Services) providing activities for their children. So far there has again been a positive response and we are looking forward to progressing these sessions further in the future, as this is a great learning curve for everyone involved and is beneficial to the workers, participants and the local communities.

If you think the work Active8 are doing may benefit you, or if you feel you would like to work with Active8 please email us at

Please check the website for further details and updates of our work within the community.
