Active8 Sheffield Corporate 6-a-side Football Tournament Kicks Off

Posted on: December 20th, 2011 by Nathan Reid

On Monday 12th December 2011 Active8 Sheffield saw off the wet and windy conditions to host their first ever Corporate 6-a-side football tournament. The event took place at King Edwards Sports Centre and was a resounding success due to all teams that took part competing fantastically well!

Darren Roberts captained his Jack-in-a-box side to victory without losing a game and only conceding one goal throughout the whole tournament. They saw off Ross Brown’s Sheffield Hallam University outfit with a 1-0 win in the final under the floodlights courtesy of a goal from tournament leading goalscorer Jamie Roper.

Other teams that took part included James Taylor’s Sheffield University Officer Training Corps, John Champion’s Electrical Services, Gregg Lant’s Morrisons Side and Andrew Leonard’s Premier Sport guys.

Special Thanks go out to everyone who entered a team and took part in our event. A final Thank You also goes to Joe Mullen who gave up his own time to help us officiate the event, we couldn’t have done it without you all!

Active8 would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. We look forward to many more events to come!

Posted on: September 8th, 2010 by Nathan Reid

During term time on Saturday mornings The Tapton Kangaroo’s trampolining club’s take place. The Tapton Kangaroo’s welcomes children of all ages, who are interested in learning and improving the sport. I coach the British gymnastic award scheme and also concentrate on strength, fitness and fun.

There are two clubs on a Saturday a beginners club, which is aimed at 4 – 8 year old children that takes place between 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. The kangaroo’s also have club’s that are aimed at 8 year olds and older and this class takes place 9:45 am – 11:15 pm and a later session 11:30 am – 1:00 pm.

We enjoy a friendly atmosphere, from the basic beginners level to the more advanced students, who also wish to compete.

Please feel free to contact me (Carolynne Walton 07963982244) if you are unsure whether or not this is something you would enjoy.

Active8 In The Community

Posted on: June 16th, 2009 by Nathan Reid

Throughout the previous school term active8 have continued our new venture working in the community and with local schools. So far there has been a very positive response and we hope this will continue for a long time to come.

Active8 went into local primary schools to work within their classroom environment and also ran clubs that linked into the extended schools & healthy lifestyles. The scheme proved beneficial to all parties and was a huge success. We again hope that we will be able to improve these links over the coming terms.

We have also helped children to improve their gross motor skills through enjoyable learning experiences, helping develop reading levels as well as assisting in the sports lessons.

Some of the children produced cards and pictures at the end of the session to show how much they appreciated and enjoyed the time active8 spent with them. Please see below.

Active8 has now started running sessions in conjunction with S.N.I.P.S (Special Needs Inclusion Playcare Services) providing activities for their children. So far there has again been a positive response and we are looking forward to progressing these sessions further in the future, as this is a great learning curve for everyone involved and is beneficial to the workers, participants and the local communities.

If you think the work Active8 are doing may benefit you, or if you feel you would like to work with Active8 please email us at

Please check the website for further details and updates of our work within the community.
