The time is here… Active8 Sheffield’s Men’s Summer 11-a-side Football Tournament is back.

Invites have been sent to all clubs we would like to see there and now is the time to put pen to paper and secure a place for the event. The tournament will take place over a period of approximately 8 weeks (depending on final numbers) on our 3G Astroturf pitches at Tapton and King Edwards Community Sports Centres. We have set a start date of W/C Monday 3rd June 2013 to get the ball rolling. A full fixture list including dates and venues will be published once all teams have registered.

Greenhill White Hart of the Sheffield Meadowhall Premier Division eventually ran out winners in 2012 after a slow start.

Greenhill White Hart were not the only talking point of this fantastic event as we were delighted to have along ex-professionals on a weekly basis. Hallam 1860 Old Boys pulled out all the stops when it came to drafting in big names for the tournament. Ex-professionals David Graham and Lee Bullen were a big part of the team. We were also treated to a father-and-son duo in the form of current Chesterfield FC player Jack Waddle (not such an old boy) and his ex-England international dad, Chris Waddle (minus the legendary mullet hairstyle, of course). Both teams have confirmed their return for this year’s event, so let the competition begin.

If you think your team is up to the challenge and wants to compete for the title then please get in touch to confirm a place.

If you require any further information or want to ask any questions, then feel free to contact via e-mail at: info.active8sheffield@interserve.com or call 01142402308 and ask for Lee or Martin.

Come and join the fun.

Active8 Sprinkled with Stardust

Stardust were crowned winners of Active8 Sheffield’s first ever netball tournament on Sunday 24th February 2013. The full day event took place at our very own Tapton and King Edwards Community Sports Centres and was a great day for all involved.

The day kicked off with the 10 teams being split into two pools and playing a round robin to pit themselves against all the other teams in their pools. The president for the day was set in this stage as both finalists, Stardust and Bobcats, went unbeaten picking up four wins (and 20 points) in the process. But don’t be fooled as both pools went down to the wire and 3 teams were looking like they would finish on 16 points in pool 2 with only 1 game to play. However, Bobcats quality finally prevailed to see them pick up the win and top the pool.

The semi-finals saw Bobcats head up against runners up of pool 2, Ballsaints, and pool 1 winners Stardust met Irwin Michellettes at the same stage. After a brilliant fight from Ballsaints, Bobcats again powered on to reach the final. Stardust again made light work of their semi-final and also made it to the main stage.

So, with 2 unbeaten sides coming together in the final, it was inevitable that one team were going to leave disappointed for the first time of the day. The game started and went on just as you would imagine with Stardust only leading by one point at half-time. The second half was just as energetic and end-to-end and in true final fashion the score at full-time was 18-18. This meant that in order to find a winner between these two it was going to take extra-time and in the end Stardust’s fitness appeared to be the deciding factor and the went on to win the tournament 25-21.

A massive well done and thank you to everyone that took part and made the event such a fun filled, yet highly competitive day.

A final mention must go out to our 4 umpires on the day. The event wouldn’t have been possible without them.

It’s Back – 11-a-side Summer Football Tournament Part II…

Posted on: February 26th, 2013 by admin

[singlepic id=73 w=320 h=240 float=center]

It’s confirmed. Our close season 11-a-side Summer Football Tournament will be returning for a 2nd year in 2013 and this time will be bigger and better than ever. The 8+ week tournament was a huge success last year and saw some of the finest amateur teams in Sheffield compete for the title.

Greenhill White Hart of the Sheffield and District Meadowhall Premier Division eventually ran out winners in 2012 after a slow start. The rest of the field was shocked when they lost their first game of the tournament, but order was restored as they bounced back and went on to win their next 6 games, scoring a massive 37 goals, to reach the semi-finals. After breezing through the semis they beat runners-up Jack-in-a-box FC convincingly 6-3 in the final on our annual Charity Fun Day to claim the title of our first ever Summer Football Tournament Winners. The final itself was officiated by none other than ex-premier league referee Uriah Rennie.

This year we are hoping to get even more teams involved and hope that word of last years success will spread to drum up lots of interest from around the local and wider area. Again, the tournament will be played over a period of weeks on our 3G Astroturf’s at Tapton and King Edwards Community Sports Centre’s during various days of the week. The final dates will be produced once the current football season has ended.

If you think you team are up to the challenge and want to compete for the title then please get in touch to confirm a place. Contact either Lee or Martin on 01142402308 or e-mail info.active8sheffield@interserve.com

Come and join the fun.
