Charity Fun Day 2013

Posted on: August 28th, 2013 by Nathan Reid

On Sunday 14th July 2013, Tapton School was full to the brim with visitors on site for our Active8 Charity Fun Day 2013.  As always, the event was in aid of two fantastic causes close to all our hearts here at Active8, Weston Park Cancer Charity and The Barnsley Hospice.  As a warm-up for the day, we hosted our first ever stand-alone car boot sale at King Edwards VII Lower School on Sunday 7th July 2013.  Special thanks go out to all those who attended that day.

One thing that was different from previous years is that the sun was shining all day and not only could people join in all the fun activities on offer but they could top up their tans at the same time.

A large focal point of the big day was our Charity Junior Football Gala, which was an enormous success and made great for great viewing throughout the day.  Teams turned up from all over the city – from Crosspool to Maltby and Ecclesfield to Stocksbridge, the variation in teams and age groups was impressive.  Separate sections ran for the Under 8’s, 9’s, 10’s and 11’s age groups and none of the tournament disappointed.  Special mentions go to our winners and runner-up who were as follows:

Under 8’s – Winners:  Nether Green JFC   Runners-up:  Norton Lees

Under 9’s – Winners:  Greenhill JFC

Under 10’s – Winners:  Crosspoool Juniors   Runners-up:  SWFC Young Owls

Under 11’s – Winners:  SWFC Young Owls  Runners-up:  Woodhouse JFC

As well as the football, we had plenty of other activities going on throughout the day.  There were bouncy castles, a parrot show, fairground rides, face painting, a car boot sale, various craft stalls, charity basketball and tennis, our ever-present Caribbean food on offer and, of course, Big Al himself leading the microphone and getting everyone involved (including numerous members of Active8 staff taking part in a Macarena dance-off!?).

A HUGE thank you goes out to everyone who was involved in making the day such a success including stall holders, footballers, parents, team managers and anyone else who turned up to support the amazing causes.  The event would have struggled to take place without you all and would have inevitably raised significantly less funds. A mention to all the businesses and colleagues who made donations in the form of raffle prizes to the day as well.

Finally we would like to mention our hard-working staff who put in a massive effort not only on the day but in the build up to this event.

We hope to continue the fundraising for the rest of the year and beyond.  It would be great if you could join us and we see you all again in the near future.

The total raised from the day was a healthy £915.00 and this will be donated to our charities shortly.

Enjoy and take care.

Charity Fun Day 2012

Posted on: August 8th, 2012 by Nathan Reid

Active8 Sheffield hosted their Fifth Cancer Charity Fun Day on July 8th to raise money for Weston Park Hospital & The Barnsley Hospice in the memory of colleagues, friends & family we have lost over the years.

We had opted to move our event from our normal Ecclesfield facility to another of our facilities at King Edwards this year, which should have allowed us to stage the event in one area. However as we had experienced last year the weather was against us again in the build up to the event and we had to change the plan on the Friday before the event but fortunately on the day of the event the weather was good throughout.

We had a large U9’s football tournament taking place throughout the day and this was won by Ecclesfield Spartans who have only recently formed and were playing against established teams like Crosspool JFC, Greenhill and Millmoor Juniors. There was also two charity men’s football matches with Friends of Interserve taking on a local football teams.

We had an animal show, cheerleading, food stalls, The Tapton Kangaroos, bouncy castles, slides, the rodeo bull, and Big Als Funhouse again providing the entertainment along with a Parrot Show. The Lord Mayor of Sheffield John Campbell came to the event and spent time meeting the Interserve team, Barnsley Hospice workers and many of the general public taking time to answer questions and interacting with them. The Mayor also found time to kick off the final of our football tournament that took place at our neighboring facility Tapton.

Caribbean Chicken Curry, build your own burgers and paella were just a few of the delicacies made available by our caterers, which were Capilles Sandwich Bar and Bishops Coffee House and Bistro.
As always Alan Marsden kept us all entertained with his choice of music and also interacted with anyone who dared approach him in his area with his Parrots on his shoulder, he did a superb job as always.

A big thank you goes out to all that attended, donated and showed their support to a cause so many of us feel so strongly about. The event raised £1092.01 in total and we will be running other events this year to bring that total up further like we have in previous years.

Charity Fun Day 2012 – Under 9’s Tournament

Posted on: July 16th, 2012 by Nathan Reid

I would just like to say a massive thank you from all of the Interserve team to all the teams that participated on Sunday 8th July in our under 9’s charity football tournament.

All teams that took part competed excellently well and made the tournament interesting as well as great fun for everyone! Lee who arranged the tournament thoroughly enjoyed himself after stepping in as a last-minute referee for the day and hope that all involved found it as entertaining as he did. The day started off full of laughs and friendly banter and that is the way it finished, although it did get quite tense for a few teams towards the end with a couple of penalty shoot-outs to add to the excitement.

Congratulations to Ecclesfield Spartans for coming out on top over, a very unlucky, Crosspool Juniors in the final. It took extra-time and penalties to eventually separate these two fantastic teams. Millmoor were also unlucky as they only made it as far as the semi-finals even though they did not lose a game in normal time between both of their teams all day!! Special thanks also to Nether Green, Norton Lees, Hallam Rangers and Throstles who were a credit to themselves and all at their club on the day!

In the forthcoming days a final total from the monies raised on the day will be published on the website along with a small write up to give you an insight on the entire day.

Charity Events 2011

Posted on: December 10th, 2011 by Nathan Reid

This year saw Active8 Sheffield host their Fourth Cancer Charity Fun Day during July to raise money for Weston Park Hospital & The Barnsley Hospice in the memory of colleagues, friends & family we have lost.

This year we weren’t as fortunate with the weather and we had to revert to our wet weather plan. We did keep the majority of our activities outside throughout the event but unfortunately our fairground rides were unable to stay for the duration due to weather.

We also had an animal show, food stalls, charity football matches, trampolining, bouncy castle’s, slides, sumo suits, and Big Als Funhouse again providing the entertainment. The Lord Mayor of Sheffield Sylvia Dunkley opened the event and spent time meeting the Interserve team and many of the general public taking time to answer a few questions.

Roti and Caribbean Chicken Curry, build your own burgers and panini’s with uniquely marinated Chicken were just a few of the delicacies made available by our caterers, which were Capille’s and Bishops Coffee House and Bistro.

As always Alan Marsden kept us all entertained with his choice of music and also interacted with anyone who dared approach him in his area, he did a fantastic job and kept spirits up even in the testing weather conditions.

We also held our Fifth Rock Night which took place at Hoyland Working Mens Club in November this year and was organized by Alison Richardson a woman who since I have known her (7+ years) as dedicated so much time to raising funds for these two great charities.

The event was again a huge success and they managed to raise nearly £4000.00 on the evening through ticket sales, raffle’s and an auction.

The event was supported by the ever willing Tony Liddle Band who are based in Newcastle and have supported Alison’s cause since she begun hosting these events. The event also saw a young performer called Sam Lewis take to the stage for one of his first live performances. Lastly I must mention the support of the one and only Steve Adams who has made the auction section of this event his own over the last few years.

A big thank you goes out to all that attended, donated and showed their support to a cause so many of us feel so strongly about. The two events that we have hosted this year have managed to raise over £5000 and we are still awaiting further donations, we hope to send the raised monies to the chosen charities within the next two weeks.

Charity Fun Day 2010

Posted on: July 9th, 2010 by Nathan Reid

Interserve Active8 held their third Cancer Charity Fun Day during July to raise money for Weston Park Hospital & The Barnsley Hospice in the memory of colleagues, friends & family we have lost.

Again this year the weather was good and this allowed us to again stay to our initial plan and keep the activities we wanted to outside we also had some additional indoor activities in the sports areas.

We decided to do a car boot sale this year that was situated around the outskirts of the school, this created much interest with a wide and varied selection of items available to capture something for everyone. We also had an animal show, food stalls, charity football matches, trampolining, bouncy castle, sumo suits, shot power, climbing and Big Als Funhouse again providing the entertainment. The Lord Mayor of Sheffield Alan Law opened the event and spent time meeting the Interserve team and many of the general public taking time to answer a few questions.

This year we held 3 football matches during the Charity Fun Day and our thanks goes out to Sheffield Rangers U11’s and their dads who had to row back the years in a thrilling encounter, Chapeltown Colts U14’s, Ecclesfield Red Rose U14’s and Friends of Active 8. The matches were all a joy to watch and the Sheffield Rangers U11’s and Dads got an opportunity to have there photo taken with the Lord Mayor. There is a further match planned to take place in the coming weeks as Activity Sheffield the team Active 8 usually play against were unable to attend this years event but wish to continue there annual rivalry.

Roti and Caribbean Chicken Curry, build your own burgers and panini’s with uniquely marinated Chicken were just a few of the delicacies made available by our caterers, which were Capille’s and Bishops Coffee House and Bistro.

As always Alan Marsden kept us all entertained with his choice of music and also interacted with anyone who dared approach him in his area, he did a fantastic job directing visitors around the site to our other activities.

A big thank you goes out to all that attended, donated and showed their support to a cause so many of us feel so strongly about. We have so far managed to raise over £1000 and are still awaiting further donations; we hope to send the raised monies to the chosen charities within the next two weeks.

I would also like to say a big thank you to the Barnsley Hospice as they sent us two volunteers to assist with the event throughout the day.
